Academics

Childersburg High School embarked on its STEM certification journey in 2019, starting with a thorough self-assessment based on STEM standards. This led to a strategic plan focusing on strengthening existing strengths and addressing areas needing improvement.

Each school year kicks off with TigerFest, an event at the CHS football field where parents and students engage in STEM activities alongside local schools, businesses, and the Parks and Recreation Department. This sets a positive tone for the academic year and supports continuous educator learning through the Childersburg High School Xplore T.E.A.M. program. This Professional Learning Community (PLC) integrates STEM into daily teaching practices and project-based learning, with experienced teachers leading professional development and fostering collaboration.

Professional development in Talladega County and at CHS emphasizes STEM, personalized and project-based learning, blended learning, and digital tools. Teachers annually develop multiple project-based learning lessons, including community-based and cross-curricular projects. CHS, serving as the career tech hub for southern Talladega County Schools, ensures college and career readiness through partnerships like AMSTI, which provides science and math resources and co-teaching opportunities.

CHS promotes parental and community involvement by inviting stakeholders to observe classes and participate in discussions on educational changes. Addressing unique challenges such as high poverty rates and post-COVID apathy, CHS launched "CHS Families," dedicating a school period to family-focused activities, STEM, and character education, culminating in digital student portfolios and senior-year student-led conferences.

The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning, integrating STEM subjects with real-world applications through projects, labs, and simulations. CHS fosters collaboration and technology integration, encouraging students to explore STEM's relevance and potential impacts on their communities. Continuous assessment and curriculum refinement ensure engaging and effective learning experiences at CHS.
